After a long battle with cancer, ready-to-wear womenswear, childrenswear and accessories designer Oscar de la Renta has died.

The New-York based designer who specialised in the most elegant, beautiful and intricate gowns for women died surrounded by his family, and in a statement released by his stepdaughter Eliza Reed Bolan, she says, “While our hearts are broken by the idea of life without Oscar, he is still very much with us.”

After dressing a long list of famous ladies including Coco Rocha, Taylor Swift, US First Lady Michelle Obama, Former US First Lady Jackie Kennedy, Audrey Hepburn and many more, tributes begin to flood in in remembrance of his sparkling personality and talented work.

Karlie Kloss, model, said, “The world has lost one of the most extraordinary people who I have ever met. Thank you for helping me become the woman I am today and for always inspiring me to be better. There is simply no one like you.”

Oscar de la Renta will forever be remembered as the man who made femininity a huge thing in fashion. He showed women that they could be strong, playful, and elegant in his designs, and he famously said, “Walk like you have three men walking behind you.”
