A Very Short Introduction booksMany students will be able to recognise the familiar covers of Oxford University Press’s range of books entitled ‘A Very Short Introduction’, with most of us having used them in numerous essays throughout our time at university. They essentially do what they say on the cover which is to provide a very short introduction to a huge variety of topics, from archaeology to medicine to politics and with 400 books in 40 different languages in their range, there aren’t many subjects that aren’t catered for.

Oxford University Press say that the aim of this range of books is to ‘change the way you think about the things that interest you, and are the perfect introduction to subjects you previously knew nothing about’. You can ask any student who has read one of their books for validation that they are indeed pretty handy when you need a quick explanation as to what your next essay is meant to be about.

So this is where you come into it all! This year Oxford University Press is running a competition whereby you could win the opportunity to design the front cover for one of their new books in the ‘Very Short Introduction’ range. Anyone can take part in this competition, no matter what you’re studying, and not only will you get to design the cover, you will have your name credited in the book as well. The competition closes at midnight on the 22nd December 2014, applicants must send their entry by post and include their email address so that Oxford University Press can get in touch if they are successful. Entries must also fit in with the current style of the ‘Very Short Introduction’ series so it is advised that you take a look at some of the books if you haven’t already – you may never know, you might even have one sitting in your room right now!
