Spotlight on Sport: Climbing

Whether you climb like a Pro, or you have never climbed anything more challenging than your stairs at home, DMU Climbing Club has a place for you!!

We are a welcoming and friendly mixed bunch of students and ex-students, who like to socialise and go away on many adventures. So if you have an adventurous side, a social side or just want to have lots of fun at Uni, you will fit right into our family.

What were the club’s accomplishments last season?

The club has seen many successes over the previous academic year. During our charity event at the Queen Elizabeth Leisure Centre we climbed the height of Mount Everest (8848m) in a day and raised £436 for Edale Mountain Rescue Team. We have also had achievements in competitions, such as where we beat Leicester University in the British University College Sports Series (BUCS) and came 4th overall in the Midlands University Bouldering Series (MUBS) and also came 5th in the individual category.

What is your most memorable moment from last season?

Setting up a giant rope swing over a valley out of “Crucifix cave” in Malta on our annual tour.

How much does it cost to join your club?

Why should students join your club?

Climbing is a unique sport that exercises, strength, endurance and balance all together. The club is open to beginners and members of all skill levels.
Whether you’re bouldering in the gym a meter off the ground, sport climbing 20 meters off the ground, or up in the mountains a thousand meters up, this sport will definitely give you the rush of adrenaline and adventure you’re looking for.
Make the most of the club gear available to you and give climbing a try!

Climbing is certainly a social sport so feel free to join us on a Wednesday for our weekly socials!

To join DMU Climbing, find them at the Sports and Societies Fair on Thursday 1st October or get in touch via their links below:
